One of Kate's earliest memories was accompanying her mother on house calls while she provided breastfeeding support to new moms -- it is these experiences which propelled her into a passionate life focused on advocacy and unconditional support. Kate grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a dual degree in Gender Studies and African Studies. While in college, she spent a summer as intern with Dr. George Tiller at his late term abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas. There, she was able to witness true compassion, and understand the importance of listening to and supporting people as they follow their own instincts about their bodies. She has carried this passion and understanding over into her doula practice, which organically began when friends requested her assistance with their births.
In addition to being a DONA trained birth and postpartum doula, she also donates her time to Chicago Volunteer Doulas. She has spent eight years working in reproductive health care including working in HIV education/testing and abortion counseling. Kate has a special interest in working with non-traditional families including single parents and queer families.
When she's not at a birth, she is nannying for twin infants, seeing live music, drinking echinacea tea and daydreaming about building her own queer family.
Kate is currently working as the postpartum doula at Kaleidoscope Doula Care!
